China Spring Youth Camp, located in Douglas County, Nevada, is dedicated to helping male and female, mid-level offenders between the ages of 12 and 18 develop skills, knowledge, and experience to promote health and resiliency, and arrest-progression of problems caused by delinquent behavior. Camp provides behavioral healthcare services, including services for co-occurring issues, to youth and their families.

Our philosophy is one of honor, trust, and accountability. We are dedicated to helping at-risk adolescents define their values using the least restrictive means necessary. We provide structure and programs to help adolescents become productive members of their families and community.

China Spring Youth Camp is a 24/7 facility and employees are required to work weekends, holidays and shift work including day, swing and graveyard shifts.

Primary Objectives

Performs intermediate work performing a variety of direct care services to adjudicated youth between the ages of 12 and 18 in a staff secure residential facility; ensuring safety, health, and welfare of the youth while monitoring day-to-day activities. Incumbents that meet the required education and experience are expected to perform the below primary duties and responsibilities independent of a supervisor after the required training program is complete;

performs related tasks as apparent or assigned.

This is a safety sensitive position and is subject to random and pre-employment drug and alcohol screening.

  • Oversees youth in day-to-day activities including, but not limited to: routine cleaning and sanitation, shower and hygiene, recreation and education, culinary activities, phone calls, meals and snacks, visitations, church services, in-camp details, and out-of-camp details.
  • Works a rotating schedule that may include day, swing, and graveyard shifts, weekends, and holidays, as assigned, to ensure 24-hour coverage and continuous operation of the facility. Adjusts to changes in shift assignments based on operational needs.
  • Maintains sight and sound supervision; accounts for youth under direct supervision; observes and addresses behaviors and implements interventions and discipline as appropriate.
  • Processes youth arriving and departing the camp, including but not limited to: issuance of clothing, bedding, and personal items; inventories and inspects clothing and property brought in by the youth and secures any unapproved items; provides orientation for new arrivals; explains procedures, daily routines and rules of conduct.
  • Enter data, organize files/paperwork, answer phone, prepare and conduct briefings, and complete daily logs; prepare written reports and documentation to record youth’s progress and incidents observed.
  • Facilitate regularly scheduled group sessions based upon cultural diversity, life skills, character development, problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • Escort youth between camp areas; transport and supervise youth during out-of-camp appointments or activities in public settings.
  • Assist with and document self-administration of prescription and non-prescription medication; provide first aid as required; observe, report and document all observed symptoms of illness/disease.
  • Perform room inspections and contraband searches; perform physical searches, as needed, and adhere to established safety, security, and emergency preparedness protocols to ensure the safety of youth and self.
  • Ensure that all areas are safe, secure, sanitary, and free of contraband; inventory and maintain accountability for department issued keys, equipment, tools, and supplies.
  • Practice emergency management preparedness evacuation and crisis prevention protocols; use approved physical and mechanical restraint methods.
  • Interact with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds.
  • Maintain professional and ethical boundaries in all work-related interactions by adhering to organizational policies, respecting confidentiality, and exercising sound judgment when engaging with clients, colleagues, and the public. Demonstrate integrity by avoiding conflicts of interest, managing personal biases, and ensuring relationships remain appropriate to the scope of work and position responsibilities.
  • Use County vehicle to perform various tasks related to job duties.
