Location: Algona

Driver – CDL Class A:
This role involves operating heavy tractor‑trailer equipment to transport feed and livestock in compliance with DOT and company safety protocols. The position requires completion of a 5‑7 week CDL training program and adherence to animal welfare standards.

Core Responsibilities
  • Successfully complete a 5‑7 week training program.
  • Follow required and recommended safety procedures while driving, delivering feed, and loading/unloading animals with animal welfare as the foremost concern.
  • Comply with all DOT rules and regulations.
  • Report accidents promptly through proper authorities.
  • Comply with all rules set forth by the receiving agent.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED (preferred).
  • Current Class A CDL or permit.
  • Previous driving experience preferred.
  • At least 21 years old.
  • Acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to obtain a DOT medical card upon hire.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule (nights, weekends, and holidays).
Work Environment & Physical Demands
  • Lifting 50 pounds.
  • Hooking up trailer to tractor, including backing under the trailer, raising landing gear, and hooking up airlines.
  • Operating a manual transmission tractor.
  • Pre‑trip inspections; climbing into engine area; bending, stooping, and crawling to complete pre‑trip.
  • Opening and closing trailer gates and doors to load and unload animals.
  • Entering and exiting the cab in tight spaces such as fuel islands.
  • Moving upper torso when backing; may require leaning out of the window to see blind spots and/or mirrors.
  • Reporting problems encountered on the farm or designated plant through the swine movement ticket or farm condition report.
  • Understanding Smithfield emergency notification process.
