The purpose of this position is to support South Tama County Community School District's commitment to ensuring all students have access to a safe, inclusive, and student-centered learning environment. The bus driver provides safe, efficient, and reliable transportation while fostering a respectful and supportive atmosphere. This role contributes to positive relationships with students, families, and staff and supports the overall well-being of each student.

• Follows all traffic laws and school bus safety regulations
• Maintains appropriate student behavior; reports concerns to appropriate staff
• Keeps interior and exterior of assigned bus clean
• Conducts pre‑trip inspections (fuel, fluids, mechanical condition); reports needed repairs
• Notifies appropriate personnel of mechanical failure, accidents, or delays
• Transports authorized students; discharges students at approved stops only
• Demonstrates responsible leadership on field trips and out‑of‑district trips
• Completes and submits required reports, including accident reports
• Enforces district policies regarding eating and smoking on the bus
• Assists young and/or disabled students entering and exiting the bus
• Checks bus after each route to ensure all students have exited and bus is secure
• Performs other duties as assigned

• High school diploma or G.E.D.
• Meets State and District health requirements
• Holds or is able to obtain a school bus driver's permit
• Demonstrates competence for assigned responsibilities
• Other qualifications as deemed appropriate by the Board
