Ready Mix Driver
Marion, IA
Full-time with overtime
$26 - $30 per hour (based on experience and qualifications)
OverviewA ready mix driver is not your typical driving position. You will deliver concrete to a variety of projects including roads, bridges, houses, and commercial buildings. Each day is different, delivering to various contractors and projects. The role requires checking concrete quality, maintaining courteous customer relations, and working within a team that feels like family. Training is available for candidates without ready mix experience or a CDL.
Responsibilities- Safely operate a ready‑mix truck in compliance with DOT regulations to deliver concrete to customers, following the most efficient route as directed by the Dispatcher or Plant Manager.
- Perform pre‑ and post‑trip inspections to ensure all DOT standards are met, including air brakes, oil, water, tire inflation, lighting, permits, safety kit, and logbook updates. Report any maintenance issues that could affect safety or production.
- Visually inspect mix design differences, verify load size against the ticket, check slump, and make appropriate adjustments.
- Wash down job sites as directed, rinse drums upon return to the plant, and perform required drum chipping.
- Provide excellent customer service, communicating professionally and courteously to complete deliveries and collect payment.
- Maintain vehicles, plant, and shop by performing regular cleaning and maintenance, keeping a clean, organized, and safe workplace.
- Complete all required paperwork on tablets or cell phones, ensuring accurate pre‑trip inspections, time reporting, truck reports, and trip tickets.
- Work as a team player and be willing to cross‑train on dispatching, batching, mechanics, and related areas.
- Perform duties outside the normal scope of work; this job description is non‑exhaustive.
- Consent to pre‑employment screening, including work history, motor vehicle record, and drug test.
- Class A or B CDL with a current Medical DOT card.
- Use of personal protective equipment required.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions from supervisors.
- Excellent communication skills in both written and verbal form.
- Dependability and reliability, showing up on time for scheduled shifts and being prepared for work.
- Positive attitude to maintain productive relationships with co‑workers and management.
- Ability to work continuously in various weather conditions, including heat, cold, noise, and dust, outdoors.
- Occasional overnight travel may be required, though not standard.
- Ability to reach below, at, or above shoulders.
- Pushing, pulling, twisting, and bending.

- Operate hand and foot controls.
- Simple, firm grasping and pinching.
- Lift, lower, or carry over 50 pounds.
