Our client in Cedar Rapids, IA is looking for a Garbage Truck Helper / Refuse Collector! Our client is looking for a dependable, hardworking Garbage Truck Helper / Refuse Collector to join their team. In this role, you will ride on the back of a garbage truck and work alongside the driver to collect trash along an assigned route. This is a fast-paced, physically demanding position that requires frequent lifting, climbing on and off the truck, and working outdoors in all types of weather.

Key Responsibilities:

• Ride on the back of a garbage truck throughout assigned routes
• Safely get on and off the truck frequently throughout the day
• Collect trash bags, garbage cans, and other approved waste from residential and/or commercial stops
• Lift and throw trash into the garbage truck
• Return garbage cans to the appropriate location after emptying
• Work efficiently alongside the driver to keep the route moving
• Follow all safety procedures while working around the truck, traffic, and moving equipment
• Remain alert to vehicles, pedestrians, and other potential hazards
• Perform repetitive lifting, bending, walking, climbing, and throwing throughout the shift
• Work outdoors in varying weather conditions
• Assist with other route or cleanup duties as needed

Qualifications:

• Dependable with strong attendance and punctuality
• Comfortable reporting to work for an early 5:00 AM start
• Able to perform physically demanding work for 8–9 hours per day
• Able to repeatedly lift, carry, and throw trash throughout the shift
• Comfortable frequently climbing on and off the back of a garbage truck
• Able to work at a steady, fast pace throughout the day
• Comfortable working outdoors in heat, cold, rain, and other weather conditions
• Willing to work around trash, odors, dirt, and debris
• Safety-conscious and able to remain aware of surroundings
• Previous experience in general labor, construction, landscaping, sanitation, warehouse, or other physical work is helpful but not required

Hours:

• Monday – Friday
• 5am start time
• Approximately 8–9 hour shifts; end time may vary depending on the route and workload

Pay:

• $17/hour
