The

role

The Metagenomics & Screening Core at NEB is dedicated to supporting internal enzyme discovery projects through comprehensive resources and high-quality screening services. We are seeking a motivated Research Technician to develop and execute high‑throughput screens and enzymatic assays, generating reliable data and delivering clear analyses to our collaborators. Other responsibilities include sequencing environmental DNA, constructing metagenomic libraries, and contributing to operational needs of the group.

This role is an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about molecular biology, high-throughput screening, and innovative discovery workflows.

How you’ll contribute
  • Assist in developing high-throughput workflows for enzyme discovery
  • Execute high-throughput screens and enzymatic assays
  • Analyze obtained data and share results with collaborators
  • Maintain excellent documentation on an electronic laboratory notebook
  • Isolate and sequence environmental DNA
  • Construct metagenomic libraries
Required Qualifications and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Biotechnology or a related field
  • 0-2 years of experience performing standard molecular biology and laboratory techniques (previous experience with high-throughput workflow preferred)
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks
  • Ability to work as a member of a highly collaborative team
  • Must have excellent communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and record‑keeping skills.

Estimated base pay range for a Research Technician is $21.00 - $23.00 per hour

The hourly rate is one component of our generous total rewards compensation package. Employees are eligible to receive:

  • Annual discretionary profit‑sharing bonus
  • Participation in our Employee Stock Ownership Plan "ESOP" (el Rigible after two full years of service)
  • Exceptional benefits package at a nominal cost to the employee including a 10% 401k match
