Senior Ecological Consultant

Location:

East Anglia (Ipswich - Hybrid)

Salary:
Up to mid £30,000s (DOE)

Overview

Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Ecological Consultant to join their growing East Anglia team. This is an excellent opportunity for an established ecologist looking to take on a senior role with the opportunity to develop into team leadership while delivering a diverse portfolio of projects across the UK.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage ecological projects from tender through to completion.
  • Produce high-quality technical reports, including Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIAs), Habitats Regulations Assessments (HRAs), and European Protected Species Licence (EPSL) applications.
  • Manage project budgets, programmes, and client relationships.
  • Lead field surveys and provide technical guidance to junior ecologists.
  • Ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, and within budget.
  • Support business development through tender preparation and client engagement.
  • Work towards or undertake line management responsibilities.
Requirements
  • Degree in Ecology or a related environmental discipline.
  • Strong consultancy experience within the UK ecology sector.
  • Excellent knowledge of UK wildlife legislation, planning policy, and survey methodologies.
  • Experience producing EcIAs, HRAs, and protected species licence applications.
  • Protected species licences are highly desirable.
  • Full CIEEM membership.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle insured for business use.
Desirable Skills
  • Ornithology experience.
  • Botanical survey skills.
  • Protected species mitigation licences.
  • Previous line management or mentoring experience.
