Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
About the role
We are looking for a skilled and motivated Mobile Welder to join our Asset and Technology Solutions business, working across a variety of projects throughout the UK. This is a mobile role where you will provide both depot and on-site support to ensure plant and equipment are maintained to the highest standards.
You will play a vital role in keeping operations running efficiently by carrying out inspections, maintenance, and repairs, while working closely with project teams and plant operators to minimise downtime and maximise performance.
What you’ll be doing- Carrying out welding, fabrication, maintenance, and repair activities on mechanical and non‑mechanical plant and equipment
- Inspecting machinery, diagnosing faults, and determining the most effective repair solutions
- Identifying and sourcing replacement parts to support repairs and maintenance activities
- Coordinating with project teams to schedule works and reduce disruption to project programmes
- Conducting regular inspections to ensure compliance with safety and operational standards
- Working closely with plant operators to ensure equipment is operating correctly and resolving issues efficiently
- Maintaining accurate records of maintenance, repairs, parts used, and time spent
- Reporting faults, defects, and issues promptly to management
- Ensuring all work is carried out safely and in line with risk assessments and work package plans
We’re looking for a proactive, reliable individual who takes pride in their work and is comfortable operating in a fast‑paced, multi‑site environment.
Essential skills and experience:
- Formal qualification in Welding and Fabrication
- Proven experience working with heavy plant and equipment, ideally within the ground engineering sector
- Knowledge of both mechanical and non‑mechanical plant
- Strong diagnostic and problem‑solving skills
- Basic IT skills
Certifications required:
- CSCS Gold Card
- NPORS MEWP Operation
- IPAF 3a & 3b+
- IPAF Safety Harness and Lanyard
- NPORS Abrasive Wheels
- Oxy Propane Burning qualification
Personal qualities:
- Self‑motivated with a strong focus on delivering results
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong work ethic and willingness to go the extra mile when required
- Able to work to deadlines in a demanding operational environment
