Position: Geoscience Technical Coordinator in the North

Geoscience Technical Coordinator in the North! Natural Resources Canada – Geoscience and Earth Monitoring Sector Closing date:

Salary: $65,216 to $81,985 (position entitled to an allowance per the Isolated Posts and Government Housing Directive. Vacation Travel Assistance may also be provided.)

Level: EG-03

Duties: The Geoscience Technician is responsible for supporting applied geoscience projects throughout Nunavut. They participate in geological mapping, use, maintain, set‑up, and takedown equipment, and handle rock samples and earth materials in support of these projects.

Work environment: The Canada‑Nunavut Geoscience Office (CNGO) mandate is to provide Nunavut with accessible geoscience information and expertise to support resource exploration and development, infrastructure development, and geoscience education, training and awareness. The office fosters an inclusive, equitable, and diverse workforce and promotes work‑life balance.

Intent of the process: The intent of this process is to staff one indeterminate EG‑03 position in Nunavut. A pool of qualified candidates will not be established. Operational Requirements
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver’s licence.
  • Obtain and maintain a wilderness First Aid Certificate (or equivalent) and CPR certificate.
Essential for the job

Education: Secondary school diploma or employer‑approved alternatives (Public Service Commission test or acceptable combination of education, training, and/or experience).

  • Experience working in varying terrain and weather conditions.

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet software.

Abilities:

  • Ability to follow standard protocols and procedures.
Language requirements (essential for the job)

May be applied/assessed at a later date.

Asset Education
  • Graduation with a certificate, diploma, or degree from a recognized post‑secondary institution with specialization in geoscience, environmental science, or a related field.
Asset Experience
  • Experience working in communities of Nunavut.
  • Experience in the care and custody of equipment.
  • Experience participating in scientific field work projects.
  • Ability to speak Inuktitut.
