Responsibilities
- Install telecommunications cable including terminations, splices and cross connects
- Troubleshoot Install and repair communications cable in a variety of environments
- Troubleshoot and repair backbone telecommunications infrastructure within client premises
- Liaise with plant operators and/or contractors for installation and maintenance work to be carried out in communities
- Provide logistical support shipping telecommunication cable and hardware when and where needed including inventory tracking
- Installation of external and internal telecommunication cabling systems for connectivity to network equipment
- Communicating with the Electrical Safety Division to acquire permits and inspections
- Installation of various electrical equipment to the CEC standards
- Modification and removal of existing structured cabling and/or fiber optic environments when required
- Installation, termination maintenance of UTP structured cabling systems including but not limited to CAT 5e / 6 cabling and cable panels following GN structured cabling guidelines
- Maintaining equipment and tools in proper working order
- Installation of structured cabling raceways, cable trays and outlets / wall jacks.
- Installation of 2” EMT conduit for fiber service entrances
- Provide technical assistance and direction to contractors on all aspects of design, installation and maintenance while working on telecommunications infrastructure
- Perform daily duties in a safe manner:
Other tasks may include running drops to demarc locations aerially and assisting with cleaning the storage yard - Assist with loading of various materials onto trucks and/or trailers
- Minimum 3-5+ years of strong experience in the design, installation, and maintenance of structured cabling. The candidate should also have experience in utilizing fluke testers, multimeters, and other electrical testing equipment.
- A current Belden certificate, Red Seal in Electrical
- Class 5 drivers license
- Fall arrest, and confined space will be considered an asset. Experience with fiber optic cable will be considered an asset.
- Ability to read, analyze and create as built fiber maps, community blueprints, fiber optic layouts, internal building floor plans and electrical drawings
- Familiarity with the Government of Nunavut Structured Cabling Guidelines
- Familiarity with the Canadian Electrical Code (currently enforced edition)
- Ability to meet tight deadlines and be detail oriented
- Knowledge of Structured Cabling materials and tools
- Ability to operate light equipment and drive utility vehicle
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team
- Ability to maintain a professional working attitude with co-workers and customers always
- The ability to adapt and deal with unexpected situations through dynamic problem solving.
- Must be able to work outside in various weather conditions
- Ability to follow direction and ask questions when unsure
- Ability to lift, push or pull tools and equipment with weights up to 70lbs
- Experienced in the following tasks:
New Cable Installs, jack repairs, testing, troubleshooting, EMT conduit installation, grounding and bonding. - Ability to Climb up to 30 ft.
- Ability to continually work above ground, using safety equipment, man lifts, and various elevated work platforms.
- Able to contribute to the design and development of Disaster Recovery (DR) and Business Continuity Plans (BCP) and related structure cabling documentation.
- Experienced at upholding quality workmanship that meets industry standards
