ATCO Frontec is seeking temporary Skilled Labourers to join our Operations team in Nunavut. The Skilled Labourer is an essential member of our operations team, assisting other experienced construction or trades staff with activities at various work sites.
The temporary positions are based on either a 4 weeks on, 4 weeks off work rotation, or a 2 months on, 2 weeks off work rotation, with travel and accommodations included.
Where We Work and LiveATCO Frontec has been operating in Resolute Bay since 1970 and has a long history of providing services in the North. The ATCO Frontec team in Resolute Bay provides logistics services for various Northern Government and private sector initiatives, including support and maintenance for the Polar Continental Shelf Program, the Resolute Bay Weather Observation, and the operation, maintenance and distribution of fuel for the hamlet and the Resolute Bay airport.
The project team also provides logistics and operational support to initiatives in surrounding communities including Eureka and Grise Fiord. With a wide range of resources and experience, the Resolute Bay team can handle any operation in one of the most hostile climates in Canada.
Responsibilities- Maintenance support to the Site Services team
- Remove rubble and other debris at construction sites using rakes, shovels, wheelbarrows and other equipment
- Operate oil and grease hoists and similar equipment
- Manual excavation and trenching using hand and air operated tools
- Load and unload cargo and construction materials, and move materials to work areas using skid steers, loaders and pickup trucks
- Erect and dismantle scaffolding, ramps, catwalks, shoring and barricades required at construction sites
- Operate hand and power tools safely
- Assist heavy equipment operators to secure special attachments to equipment, signal operators to guide them in moving equipment and provide assistance in other activities
- Other duties as assigned
- A minimum of two years’ experience in a similar role operating machinery is an asset
- Robust commitment to follow workplace safety requirements and procedures
- Physically capable of performing a strenuous and demanding job (lifting, pulling, etc.)
- Prepared to work in extreme weather conditions
- Experience working in a remote environment is considered an asset
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Able to read drawings and blueprints
- Ability to build and work in a team environment with a strong commitment to personal and team safety
This position is safety sensitive and will require completion and successful passing of a pre‑employment alcohol & drug test, a fit to work medical test, and a criminal record check. Final candidates will be required to undergo a Security Clearance Check.
