Michigan Broadband Services (MBS) is hiring a full-time Outside Plant Field Inspector based out of Carney, MI. In this role, you will act as our primary field agent responsible for overseeing outside plan telecom construction projects. You will ensure all field operations adhere strictly to safety protocols, timeline goals, engineering plans, and state/federal regulatory guidelines to support the ongoing growth of our network.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct daily, on-site evaluations of internal construction crews and external contractors across all weather conditions.
  • Inspect underground facilities installations to confirm proper placement depth, cable labeling, and general infrastructure accuracy.
  • Track active site progress, verifying full alignment with safety requirements, engineering blueprints, and building standards.
  • Facilitate field logistics, aid in scheduling, and streamline overall project workflow to keep builds within budget and on time.
  • Compile clear inspection logs, manage site records, and provide routine status updates to project leadership.
  • Pinpoint and solve field construction or staking conflicts through direct interpretation of engineering schematics.
  • Execute through quality control reviews to guarantee compliance with company, engineering, and government regulations.
  • Act as the primary point of contact connecting landholders, local permitting offices, sub-contractors, and internal teams throughout the project lifecycle.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Travel is required throughout the assigned service area, up to 100%.
  • Capacity to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and navigate uneven terrain on foot for several miles daily.
  • Capable of safely performing the physical demands of the position, including bending, standing, climbing, lifting, and walking.
  • Working knowledge of telecommunications construction practices is preferred.
  • Skilled in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, maps, schematics, and staking sheets.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel.
  • Previous telecommunications inspection or RUS experience is preferred.
  • Willingness to work overtime as needed to meet project demands.
