Full-time/Part-time Part-Time Position Type Staff Job Summary/Basic Function
The primary responsibility of this temporary position is to provide Supplemental Instruction for Pre-Calculus students at the Bay College Iron Mountain campus.
Supplemental Instruction (SI) is an internationally recognized academic support program that targets traditionally difficult courses. Students come together in regularly scheduled study sessions to compare notes, discuss course materials, develop creative study tools, practice problem solving and prepare for exams. These sessions are facilitated by trained SI Leaders that attend the course with students and prepare study materials for use during SI sessions.
Minimum Qualifications- Demonstrated competence (at least an A-) in MATH 140, Pre-Calculus or a comparable course.
- Completed the equivalent of two years of college course work.
- Strong foundation in math or related field.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Tutoring experience.
- BS/BA in math or related field.
- Experience in Supplemental Instruction.
- Teaching experience.
Months Per Year 8 Hours Worked Per Week 10 Work Schedule The SI leader must be available to attend lecture and hold SI sessions at the following times: SI T/R 9:00-10:00am CST;
Lecture M-R 10:00-11:15 AM CST Supervision Exercised Supervision Received Works under the general supervision of the Academic Support Coordinator

Job Duties
- Attend training prior to the start of the semester.
- Attend all scheduled class sessions.
- Plan for each SI session held.
- Hold two one-hour SI session each week.
- Hold three office hours throughout the week to enhance SI session planning and provide services to students.
- Meet with the course instructor weekly to ensure accuracy and relevancy of the SI session material.
- Meet with the SI Manager weekly during the semester to assess and enhance the effectiveness of the SI sessions through the application of continuous improvement protocols.
- Take notes and complete all assignments and readings for the course.
- Advertise SI to students.
- Take attendance at each SI session and report weekly attendance to the instructor and semester attendance to the SI Manager.
