Job Summary/Basic Function The primary responsibility of this temporary position is to provide supplemental instruction to students in Bay College’s weldingprogram at Iron Mountain Campus. Specifically, the SI leader will support students in MATH 102-Intro to Technical Math.
Supplemental Instruction (SI) is an internationally recognizedacademic support program that targets traditionally difficultcourses. Students come together in regularly scheduled studysessions to compare notes, discuss course materials, developcreative study tools, practice problem solving and prepare forexams. These sessions are facilitated by trained SI Leaders thatattend the course with students and prepare study materials for useduring SI sessions.

Work Schedule The SI leader must be available to attend lecture and hold SIsessions at the following times:
SI class - Tuesdays and Thursdaysfrom 12:30-1:20 PM;
Lecture:
Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1:30-3:20PM;
Office
Hours:
3 office hours per week.
- Demonstrated competence (at least an A-) in MATH 102-Intro toTech Math or comparable courses.
- Completed the equivalent of two years of college coursework.
- Strong foundation in math.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Tutoring experience.
- Experience in Supplemental Instruction.
- Teaching experience.
- Attend training prior to the start of the semester.
- Attend all scheduled class sessions.
- Plan for each SI session held.
- Hold two one-hour SI sessions each week.
- Hold three office hours throughout the week to enhance SI sessionplanning and provide services to students.
- Meet with the course instructor weekly to ensure accuracy andrelevancy of the SI session material.
- Meet with the SI Manager weekly during the semester to assess and enhance the effectiveness of the SI sessions through the application of continuous improvement protocols.
- Take notes and complete all assignments and readings for thecourse.
- Advertise SI to students.
- Take attendance at each SI session and report weekly attendance tothe instructor and semester attendance to the SI Manager.
- Utilize session planning forms to prepare organized, effective SIsessions.
- Create a comfortable and supportive learning environment during theSI sessions.
- Teach study skills and use collaborative learning techniques tohelp students master course material.
- Administer and record data for SI evaluation surveys.
- Mentor and advise students on ancillary topics such as referringthem to other needed support services available within the college.
- Attend regular training sessions provided by college staff.
- Provide services to students utilizing the Student Success Centerduring office hours.
- Any other duties as assigned.
