Process & Controls Commissioning Engineer
The Process & Controls Commissioning Engineer will perform acceptance testing and pre-commissioning of protection and control (P&C) equipment in the factory using procedures set-forth by Systems Control and its utility partners. A day in the life includes applying protective relay settings and performing testing that validates proper function. Applying RTU settings and verifying status, metering, and control functions. Troubleshooting and problem-solving when deficiencies are identified.
Performing testing procedures and documenting the results completely, in accordance with internal and customer-specific requirements. Keeping up-to-date with utility industry trends and practices by attending relevant training opportunities. Providing technical support to engineering, manufacturing and test departments. Identifying potential process improvements and collaborating with other team members. Notifying designers and engineers of deficiencies identified during testing. Executing testing procedures that ensure elements of P&C design are properly applied and functioning as intended.
What will help you thrive in this role? Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent education and experience. Experience testing electric utility P&C equipment preferred. NFPA and OSHA safety certified, or ability to become certified. Commitment to continued education, training, and learning new tasks. Familiar with some electric utility industry testing and documentation requirements. General understanding of the operation, application, and testing of protective relays.
Understand the importance of safe work practices associated with the electric utility industry. Ability to incorporate human performance tools into daily work practices. Familiar with RTU point assignments and checkout preferred. Strong attention to detail with proven analytical and problem-solving skills. Self-starter able to work both in teams and individually with limited supervision. Familiar with electric utility P&C schematic and wiring diagrams preferred.
Competent with Microsoft Office Suite programs:
Excel, Outlook, Word.
