Job Overview
The Protection & Controls Commissioning Engineer will perform acceptance testing and pre‑commissioning of protection and control (P&C) equipment in the factory using procedures set‑forth by Systems Control and its utility partners. #LI-TB1
A Day In The Life- Apply protective relay settings and perform testing that validates proper function.
- Apply RTU settings and verify status, metering, and control functions.
- Troubleshoot and problem‑solve when deficiencies are identified.
- Perform testing procedures and document the results completely, in accordance with internal and customer‑specific requirements.
- Keep up‑to‑date with utility industry trends and practices by attending relevant training opportunities.
- Provide technical support to engineering, manufacturing and test departments.
- Identify potential process improvements and collaborate with other team members.
- Notify designers and engineers of deficiencies identified during testing.
- Execute testing procedures that ensure elements of P&C design are properly applied and functioning as intended.
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent education and experience.
- Experience testing electric utility P&C equipment preferred.
- NFPA and OSHA safety certified, or ability to become certified.
- Commitment to continued education, training, and learning new tasks.
- Familiar with some electric utility industry testing and documentation requirements.
- General understanding of the operation, application, and testing of protective relays.
- Understand the importance of safe work practices associated with the electric utility industry.
- Ability to incorporate human performance tools into daily work practices.
- Familiar with RTU point assignments and checkout preferred.
- Strong attention to detail with proven analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Self‑starter able to work both in teams and individually with limited supervision.
- Familiar with electric utility P&C schematic and wiring diagrams preferred.
- Competent with Microsoft Office Suite programs:
Excel, Outlook, Word.
