Job Description
American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for an Emergency Department position at a Level IV Trauma facility in Michigan, requiring 2 years of ED experience and certifications including ACLS, BLS, PALS, and TNCC.
Responsibilities- Work in a 14-bed Emergency Department with 2 trauma bays at a Level IV Trauma Center (no stroke or STEMI receiving — those patients are transferred out)
- Fast Track area available with 3 designated rooms
- Separate triage area with 2 triage rooms; travelers may perform triage after completing facility policy and procedure review
- Patient holds are typically managed within the department, with overflow to an attached ACU
- Psych/seclusion capability available; any room can be converted as needed
- Average daily patient volume is 40–60 patients
- Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:3–4 during the day, higher at night; only 2 RNs on from 3am–7am
- Common patient presentations include traumas, STEMIs, strokes, MVAs, and agricultural injuries
- Variable drips administered
- ED Physician on-site 24/7, with mid-level providers also available
- Respiratory Therapy available 24/7 for ABGs, breathing treatments, and EKGs
- No monitor techs; RNs are responsible for reading their own strips via central monitoring station
- X-ray is located down the hall with 24/7 availability; CT is immediately adjacent to the department
- Phlebotomy services available 24/7
- Support staff includes CNAs, medics, and LPNs who float to assist with tasks
- 12-hour evening and night shifts with variable start times of 3pm or 7pm
- Every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday) required
- Charting system is currently Cerner, transitioning to Epic
- Floating to inpatient units required as needed
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Candidates who previously worked for this health system as permanent staff must have an end date at least 6 months prior to their consideration date; hospital approval is also required
- Orientation consists of computer-based training, 1 day of policy review, and 1 day of department-specific floor orientation (8 hours total)
- Holiday coverage required; typically every other holiday during the contract, with additional coverage expected for winter holidays
- No mandatory call or standby requirement; going home early is voluntary and without pay
- Scrub color is flexible — any solid color is acceptable; attire must be clean and professional
- Candidates living within 80 miles of the facility are considered local and may be eligible at a different rate
- Active MI RN license required (must be active by start date)
- Current certifications required: ACLS (AHA), BLS (AHA), PALS (AHA), and TNCC
- Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department experience required
- BSN not required
- 2 professional references required for consideration: 1 supervisor reference from within the last 12 months of relevant experience, and 1 peer or supervisor reference from within the last 3 years of relevant experience
