Fire Service Technician

Responsibilities

• Receive service calls from Service Resource Center, providing brief descriptions of equipment or system malfunctions.
• Contact customer representatives, ascertain equipment or system problems, and diagnose issues.
• Perform service, troubleshooting, and repairs on electronic fire alarm systems and other building system products at customer sites.
• Follow prescribed troubleshooting procedures and refer to technical manuals, part manuals, change notices, bulletins, and modification notices to repair equipment.
• Service, troubleshoot, and install many different manufacturers’ fire & life safety systems, including Simplex Grinnell.
• Read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, submittals, specifications, software/systems, programs, schematics, and operational product manuals.
• Maintain excellent customer service skills by consistently communicating with district staff and customers to ensure satisfaction.
• Complete service acknowledgements with proper coding through communication devices, such as smartphones and laptop computers, and obtain customer signature upon completed service call assignment.
• Participate in a scheduled on‑call rotation and provide support during after‑hours as required.
• Help to train or mentor others on the service team.
• Provide customers with solutions and outcomes at the time of service, including recommendations, quotes, and upselling opportunities.
• Perform other duties as assigned, including troubleshooting and repairing installed systems, panel repair/reprogram, device replacement/repair, resolving low‑voltage circuit troubles, and system testing.

• Minimum 4+ years documented experience in low voltage electrical systems, including fire/life safety systems, access control, nurse call, and paging systems.
• Experience in reading and interpreting blueprints, submittals, and operational/product manuals.
• Knowledge of test equipment such as multimeters, digital analyzers, and commissioning devices.
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Excellent written and verbal communication and outstanding customer service skills.
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions; capable of performing physical labor, including carrying and moving equipment and tools up to 50‑70 lbs, working in unusual positions such as climbing ladders, scaffolding, and heights up to 40 ft, working within ducts, crawl spaces, and above ceilings.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends, to meet customer requirements.
• Demonstrated adherence to safety guidelines and procedures.
• Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record that meets company requirements.
• Maintain any required licenses for National, State, and Local codes.
• Preferred NICET Level II certification.

Hourly range: $25–34 (hourly rate to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data). This position includes a competitive benefits package.
