Control Room Operator – Bismarck, Missouri
IKO Industries Ltd. is a global leader in manufacturing roofing products. We are looking for a Control Room Operator to monitor and coordinate operations at our Bismarck plant, which produces granules for asphalt shingle manufacturing.
Job SummaryThe Control Room Operator is responsible for monitoring, controlling, and coordinating operations from a centralized control room to ensure safe, efficient, and continuous facility or system performance. The role involves real‑time monitoring of equipment, alarms, and communication systems, responding to operational issues, and coordinating with field personnel and management as needed. The operator plays a key role in maintaining safety, quality, and process reliability across plant operations.
KeyDuties and Responsibilities
- Monitor control room systems, displays, cameras, alarms, and instrumentation to ensure normal operations.
- Respond promptly to system alarms, abnormal conditions, and emergency situations according to established procedures.
- Operate control panels, computer systems, and communication equipment to regulate processes and equipment.
- Maintain continuous communication with field operators, supervisors, security, and emergency responders.
- Document operational data, incidents, alarms, and actions taken in logs or electronic systems.
- Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs), safety regulations, and compliance requirements.
- Assist in troubleshooting equipment or system issues and elevate concerns as appropriate.
- Support shift handoffs by providing accurate and thorough status updates.
- Participate in drills, training, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Maintain situational awareness during normal, abnormal, and emergency operations.
- Adept with computers and comfortable working with HMI and monitoring software.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple process variables simultaneously.
- Capability to identify abnormal conditions and respond calmly and effectively.
- Knowledge of crushing and granule coloring processes is an asset.
- Strong communication and problem‑solving skills.
- High school diploma or equivalent (technical training or associate degree preferred).
- Previous experience in a control room, operations, security, utilities, manufacturing, or similar environment preferred.
- Basic computer skills and ability to learn specialized monitoring and control software.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to follow procedures and make sound decisions quickly.
- Willingness to work rotating shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
- Ability to work extended periods in a seated position.
- Ability to observe multiple screens and respond quickly to visual and auditory alerts.
- Accept travel during the first year for training as needed.
