Position: Pipefitter / Gasfitter Journeyman

Job Summary

The Pipefitter/Gasfitter Journeyman is responsible for installing, assembling, maintaining, testing, and repairing piping systems that transport natural gas, propane, steam, water, air, and other industrial fluids. This position requires the ability to interpret blueprints and specifications, fabricate pipe systems, and ensure compliance with applicable safety and regulatory requirements. The role reports to the Maintenance Supervisor.

Responsibilities
  • Install, assemble, modify, maintain, and repair gas and piping systems.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, specifications, and piping schematics.
  • Measure, cut, thread, bend, weld, and fit pipe according to project requirements.
  • Install valves, regulators, meters, couplings, and other piping components.
  • Perform pressure testing, leak detection, and system inspections.
  • Troubleshoot and repair piping system malfunctions and equipment failures.
  • Ensure installations comply with local, state, federal, and industry codes and standards.
  • Operate hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, pipe‑threading machines, and testing equipment.
  • Coordinate work with contractors, engineers, supervisors, and other trades personnel.
  • Follow lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures and other safety protocols.
  • Utilize Maximo computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) to maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, and completed work.
  • Follow all environmental, health, and safety requirements and maintain a clean and organized work area.
Qualifications
  • Proven experience working in and maintaining a safe work environment with intimate knowledge of LOTO procedures or other relevant safety practices.
  • Journeyman Pipefitter/Gasfitter certification preferred.
  • Experience installing and maintaining commercial, industrial, or utility piping systems.
  • Knowledge of gas distribution systems, piping materials, and industry practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications.
  • Understanding applicable safety regulations and building codes.
  • Ability to perform pipe layout, measurement, and system testing.
  • Proficiency with welding, brazing, soldering, threading, and fitting methods.
  • Strong problem‑solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Proficient operating computers.
  • Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent attention to detail and workmanship quality.
  • Ability to meet deadlines while maintaining safety and quality standards.
  • Ability to manage time effectively while handling multiple jobs with varying priorities.
  • Must be able to work in a team setting with other tradesmen.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and work in industrial environments including exposure to dust, noise, heat, and moving equipment.
  • Must be able to climb ladders, work at heights, and enter confined spaces as required.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and perform physical tasks throughout the shift.
  • Rotating shifts, holidays, and overtime may be required.
  • Must wear the required personal protective equipment (PPE).
