Professional Search Group (PSG) is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Project Accountant to support the financial management of our clients construction projects from start to finish. This role partners closely with Project Managers, Operations, and Finance to ensure accurate job cost reporting, timely billing, and strong financial controls across all active projects.
Key Responsibilities- Manage project setup in the accounting system, including budgets, cost codes, and contract values
- Track and analyze job costs, including labor, materials, subcontractors, and overhead
- Prepare and process monthly progress billings (AIA, T&M, and cost-plus)
- Maintain WIP schedules and support monthly close activities
- Monitor project budgets vs. actuals and provide variance analysis to project teams
- Review and process subcontractor pay applications and lien releases
- Ensure compliance with contract terms, insurance, and documentation requirements
- Collaborate with Project Managers to forecast costs, revenue, and cash flow
- Support audits and internal controls related to project accounting
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 3+ years of accounting experience, preferably in construction or project-based environments
- Strong understanding of job cost accounting and percentage-of-completion methods
- Experience with construction accounting software (e.g., Sage 300/100, Procore, Viewpoint, CMiC, or similar)
- Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, formulas)
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects
- Experience with AIA billing and WIP reporting
- Familiarity with GAAP as it applies to construction revenue recognition
- Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
