The Role
Haskell & White is one of the largest independently owned public accounting firms in Southern California, serving a diverse mix of public and private middle‑market companies across industries including real estate, technology, life sciences, manufacturing, and nonprofits. Our Tax team helps businesses and individuals navigate complex tax regulations with clarity and confidence, combining deep technical knowledge with the personalized attention our clients rely on.
As a Senior Accountant, you will take ownership of client engagements, mentor staff, and make independent decisions that directly impact the quality and efficiency of our work.
- Prepare intermediate to advanced individual and entity income tax returns, including C and S Corporations, Partnerships, LLCs, nonprofits, trusts, and estates.
- Review tax returns prepared by less experienced staff and provide constructive, timely feedback.
- Manage multiple client engagements simultaneously, exercising independent judgment on procedures and project decisions.
- Prepare and consolidate tax provision schedules, maintaining supporting documentation in accordance with current and revised tax laws.
- Build and strengthen relationships with client personnel by developing a thorough understanding of their business and related needs.
- Identify issues that warrant management attention and communicate findings clearly and proactively.
- Support staff development through training, mentoring, and day‑to‑day guidance while ensuring project deadlines are met.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field with an accounting emphasis
- Experience: Two or more years of tax experience at a CPA firm; active CPA license or progress toward it
- Technology: Experience with Thomson Reuters Checkpoint, CCH Pro System FX, and similar tax and practice management platforms
- Skills: Strong technical judgment, clear communication, client relationship skills, and a team‑first approach
This role targets between 1,650 and 1,800 chargeable hours annually. Tax has two busy seasons, with weekly hours expected to reach 55 during peak periods. You will work alongside experienced partners and managers across a wide range of client types and industries.
