Technical Accounting, Senior Manager

Alliance Resource Group is partnered with a large, publicly traded manufacturing company in their search for a Senior Manager of Technical Accounting. This is a highly technical role focused on complex accounting conclusions, memo writing, and post-transaction accounting support. The company has meaningful investment activity, acquisition‑related accounting, and interests in outside companies that require thoughtful documentation and technical accounting analysis.

The Senior Technical Accounting Manager will be responsible for supporting and documenting technical accounting conclusions related to investments, VIEs, consolidations, business combinations, purchase accounting, and related balance sheet matters. This person will work closely with accounting leadership, SEC reporting, corporate accounting, legal, finance, and external auditors. The ideal candidate will have experience actually writing technical accounting memos and supporting conclusions, not just reviewing audit support.

• Prepare and manage technical accounting memos supporting complex accounting conclusions.
• Support VIE and consolidation analysis under ASC 810.
• Evaluate accounting treatment for investments, notes receivable, acquisition options, and related interests in other companies.
• Support post‑transaction business combination accounting under ASC 805.
• Assist with purchase accounting, purchase price allocation support, measurement‑period adjustments, and acquisition‑related variance analysis.
• Support technical accounting conclusions related to goodwill, intangible assets, contingent consideration, and investment balances.
• Prepare or review journal entries tied to technical accounting conclusions.
• Partner with external auditors and internal stakeholders to support accounting positions.
• Assist with SEC reporting matters as needed, though SEC reporting is not the primary focus of the role.

• CPA strongly preferred.
• Public accounting foundation preferred, but straight audit‑only experience may not be enough unless paired with hands‑on technical accounting ownership.
• Strong technical accounting experience in a public company, technical accounting advisory, transaction advisory, accounting consulting, or M&A accounting environment.
• Experience writing technical accounting memos.
• Exposure to ASC 810 / VIEs, ASC 805 / business combinations, consolidations, investments, purchase accounting, and SEC reporting.
• Ability to research accounting guidance, document conclusions, and communicate complex issues clearly.
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to work cross‑functionally.
