Job Description
Experience: Director
Salary: $170,000 - $190,000 per year
Job DetailsReporting to the Chief Accounting Officer, the Controller will own accounting operations and strategic financial analysis for the company, directing department activities, implementing internal controls, and overseeing the financial reporting used for compliance, forecasting, and cash flow. This role is 100% onsite at the company's Orange County, CA headquarters.
Responsibilities- Supervise the production and accuracy of financial statements, including balance sheets and income statements
- Monitor actual spending against budget and report variances to key executives
- Ensure full compliance with federal and state reporting requirements, including SEC filing regulations for publicly traded companies
- Oversee the preparation of federal, state, and local tax returns and stay current on tax law
- Directly supervise the Accounting and Payroll Managers and lead department operations
- Devise and implement internal controls to reduce the risk of errors, omissions, and fraud
- Manage organizational debt and participate in loan renegotiations
- Stay current on financial markets and industry trends that impact the company's finances
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting
- Big 4 or other public accounting background required
- 15 or more years of progressive accounting experience, including 5 or more years in senior controller or equivalent roles
- In-depth knowledge of accounting principles and standards, corporate taxation, internal controls, and cash management
- Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to explain accounting concepts at every level of the organization
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment with a high level of integrity
- Real estate or REIT experience is a strong plus
- CPA certification is a plus
