Director, Technical Accounting
We're recruiting a Director, Technical Accounting for a client seeking a strategic, hands-on accounting leader with deep technical accounting expertise who thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
Location:
Hybrid in Irvine, CA (2 days/week onsite: Monday & Tuesday)
Salary: $150,000–$182,500 + bonus
Responsibilities:- Serve as the organization's technical accounting expert, providing guidance on complex accounting issues and ensuring compliance with U.S. GAAP.
- Research, interpret, and implement new accounting standards while maintaining accounting policies and procedures.
- Prepare technical accounting memorandums to support significant transactions and accounting conclusions.
- Partner with accounting leadership to support the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close and reporting processes.
- Oversee internal and regulatory reporting, helping ensure the accuracy and timeliness of financial information.
- Collaborate with executive leadership to evaluate the accounting impact of strategic initiatives, business transactions, and organizational changes.
- Work closely with external auditors and internal control teams to support audits and maintain a strong compliance environment.
- Identify opportunities to streamline accounting operations through automation, process enhancements, and technology improvements.
- Partner with Accounting Systems, IT, and Finance teams to improve reporting efficiency and strengthen accounting workflows.
- Contribute to long-term accounting transformation initiatives while supporting scalable processes that align with business growth.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA strongly preferred.
- 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including technical accounting and public accounting experience.
- Previous experience with a Top 10 public accounting firm is highly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and experience researching and resolving complex accounting matters.
- Experience supporting financial reporting for publicly traded organizations, including exposure to SEC reporting.
- Background working with audits, internal controls, and accounting policy development.
- Proven ability to interpret accounting guidance and communicate recommendations to senior leadership.
- Experience driving process improvements, automation initiatives, and operational efficiencies within the accounting function.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with a collaborative approach to partnering across the organization.
