Compensation: $35–$43/hour ($75,000–$90,000 annually)
Location:
Irvine, CA (Hybrid Schedule)
The Role
This role is ideal for an experienced property accounting professional who is comfortable operating independently, identifying discrepancies, and ensuring the final financials are accurate and complete.
- Own the full month-end close process for approximately 25–30 properties.
- Review accounting work prepared by an offshore team for accuracy, completeness, and proper coding.
- Identify missing activity, unusual balances, incorrect journal entries, and other potential issues.
- Investigate and resolve discrepancies across the general ledger and balance sheet.
- Prepare, review, and post journal entries as needed.
- Perform and review account reconciliations and ensure outstanding items are appropriately researched and resolved.
- Analyze financial activity and investigate variances or balances that do not appear reasonable.
- Work within Yardi or MRI to review transactions, reports, ledgers, and property-level accounting.
- Utilize Excel for data analysis, reconciliations, reporting, and investigation of accounting issues.
- Meet established month-end deadlines and maintain a high level of accuracy in a fast-paced environment.
- Handle ad hoc accounting questions, projects, and issues as they arise.
- Partner with internal teams and accounting resources to resolve issues efficiently.
- Identify opportunities to improve workflows, reporting, and accounting processes.
- Previous property accounting experience.
- Demonstrated experience owning month-end close across a portfolio of properties.
- Strong experience with Yardi or MRI.
- Solid understanding of accounting fundamentals, including GL, journal entries, reconciliations, and balance sheet activity.
- Experience reviewing journal entries and accounting work prepared by others.
- Ability to identify when an entry, reconciliation, balance, or other accounting activity does not look correct.
- Strong discrepancy investigation and problem-solving skills.
- Intermediate Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUPs, and data analysis.
