JOB SITE STATUS: Onsite, albeit with some flexibility in start times.
PAY RANGE: $65,000 to $85,000 base salary
JOB DESCRIPTIONCV Resources, in partnership with our legal client in Irvine, CA, seeks an experienced Billing Clerk to join their team. This role is responsible for processing a high volume of legal bills, in addition to performing a variety of other administrative and billing duties according to established policies and procedures. The Billing Clerk will maintain contact with attorneys, staff, and clients while observing strict confidentiality of client and firm matters, which may involve answering questions and requests, providing necessary follow‑up, and resolving client billing disputes.
RESPONSIBILITIESOF THE BILLING CLERK
- Prepare, distribute, and edit pre‑bills.
- Apply retainer and prepaid funds as directed by attorneys.
- Execute complex and voluminous bills in a timely manner (e.g., manual rate and/or hour adjustments by matter, split‑party billing, preparation of electronic bills).
- Review and distribute accurate bills with supporting documentation as required.
- Create new billing documents (billing schedules, analyses, etc.) as needed.
- Assist with managing scheduled rate changes, including calendaring and communicating changes to clients and attorneys.
- Investigate questionable client costs and recommend actions to resolve discrepancies.
- Maintain Deadline report for Timekeepers and monitor timeliness of time entries.
- Research and respond to inquiries regarding billing history and billing issues.
- Communicate billing requirements to ensure client costs are processed correctly.
- Interact and communicate effectively with attorneys, staff, and clients.
- Accept any ad hoc tasks as deemed necessary by upper management.
- High school diploma required; further education or degree is a plus.
- Prior legal billing experience in a law firm environment.
- Experience with electronic billing systems.
- Experience with accounting/billing software, tailored to the legal industry.
- Demonstrated proficiency with MS Office, especially Excel.
- Exceptional attention to detail with strong organizational skills.
- Ability to multi‑task, prioritize, and manage time efficiently in a fast‑paced environment.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and work demands.
