The RoleThe Director, Business Strategy & Operations - External Affairs reports to the Chief Communication and External Affairs Officer and enables the Executive to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders while fulfilling commitments to serve Providence St. Joseph Health’s evolving needs.
The Director serves as a key strategic partner with executive leadership, owning end-to-end business and administrative operations of the team. The role establishes strong collaborative relationships with leaders across the organization and advises the Chief Communication and External Affairs Officer on major strategic considerations, coordinates and executes strategy, enhances team capabilities, and delivers analysis and consulting assignments.
What Youeature to Do- Partner with the Chief Communications and External Affairs Officer and the Executive Leadership Team to support strategy, priorities, and transformation initiatives.
- Collaborate with Communication Operations to support ongoing project management.
- Lead, organize, and coordinate all-team meetings to ensure effective communication and decision-making.
- Lead annual and monthly budget processes and communications for Communications, Marketing and External Affairs with Finance and Operations partners.
- Address Escher-specific financial sustainability needs for teams as appropriate.
- Serve as a strategic advisor and extension of the Chief Communications and External Affairs Officer and Executive Leadership Team to anticipate priorities, risks, and opportunities.
- Manage team rhythms and governance processes to focus on high-impact priorities.
- Facilitate quarterly All-Hands meetings, Leadership Team meetings, and follow-up communications.
- Lead the annual performance review cycle for the team, including survey results, action planning, and related programs in partnership with leadership and centers of excellence.
- Lead internal and external executive briefings, talking points, presentations, and system-level communications.
- Facilitate alignment and collaboration across the Executive Leadership Team and key stakeholders.
- Plan and execute Top 200 and Executive Council calls, collaborating with CEOC members on strategic messaging, follow-up communications, and action item tracking.
- Strengthen leadership effectiveness, accountability, and decision-making.
- Champion a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, accountability, and care.
- Lead change management efforts for major organizational initiatives in coordination with HR, CEOC members, COO, Strategy Leaders and Finance stakeholders.
- Bachelors Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Business Administration, or related field.
- Masters Degree (preferred)
- 7 years of experience advising and facilitating leaders in strategic planning, business performance, and optimization.
- 7 years of project leadership in a complex environment (large healthcare provider preferred).
- 7 years of demonstrated experience working in highly matrixed and geographically dispersed organizations and teams.
- Demonstrated writing and editing excellence.
- Deep knowledge of integrated health care and communication practices.
- Ability to build strong relationships with senior executives and board leadership at organizational and regional levels.
- Ability to work collaboratively across a matrixed marketing and communications team to deliver messaging and programs quickly and effectively across channels and locations.
- Ability to drive proactive, powerful messaging in support of a brand position.
- Agility to coordinate multiple high-level projects and just-in-time issues.
