Project Engineer

The Project Engineer supports the Project Manager and Superintendent with the coordination, documentation, and successful delivery of commercial and Public Works construction projects. This position assists with project planning, subcontractor coordination, RFIs, submittals, scheduling, cost tracking, and closeout documentation from preconstruction through final completion.

Projects may include schools, municipal facilities, government buildings, public safety facilities, renovations, tenant improvements, and ground-up construction. The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced construction environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the Project Manager and Superintendent with day-to-day project coordination and administration.
  • Prepare, process, and track RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, change orders, and project correspondence.
  • Review plans, specifications, and contract documents to identify scope requirements and potential conflicts.
  • Maintain current project drawings, specifications, logs, and documentation in the project management system.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors, suppliers, architects, engineers, inspectors, and internal project teams.
  • Assist with subcontractor procurement, bid comparisons, scope reviews, and subcontract preparation.
  • Track material procurement, long-lead items, equipment deliveries, and subcontractor schedules.
  • Support project scheduling activities, including look-ahead schedules, milestone tracking, and schedule updates.
  • Attend project meetings and prepare meeting agendas, minutes, and follow-up action items.
  • Assist with cost tracking, change management, purchase orders, and monthly project reporting.
  • Coordinate testing, inspections, permits, and required documentation for Public Works projects.
  • Support certified payroll, prevailing wage, and labor compliance documentation when required.
  • Assist with quality-control inspections and verify that work complies with plans, specifications, and applicable codes.
  • Help resolve field coordination issues by communicating with the Project Manager, Superintendent, design team, and subcontractors.
  • Support project closeout, including punch lists, warranties, operations manuals, as-built drawings, and turnover documents.
  • Maintain professional communication with owners, subcontractors, consultants, inspectors, and project stakeholders.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or a related field.
  • An equivalent combination of education and position-related construction experience may be considered.
  • Minimum of two years of Project Engineer experience supporting Public Works construction projects.
  • Four or more years of overall commercial construction experience preferred.
  • Experience preparing and tracking RFIs, submittals, change orders, meeting minutes, and project logs.
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural, civil, structural, and MEP drawings and specifications.
  • Proficiency with Procore and Bluebeam required.
  • Strong knowledge of construction terminology, documentation, sequencing, and project coordination.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with office and field personnel.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with DSA, K-12 education, municipal, government, or other publicly funded construction projects.
  • Familiarity with Public Works contracting requirements, prevailing wage, certified payroll, and labor compliance.
  • Experience with Oracle Primavera P6 or similar scheduling software.
  • Knowledge of design-build and general contracting project delivery methods.
  • Experience supporting projects valued at $5 million or greater.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Project, Microsoft Office, and document-control platforms.
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
  • LEED accreditation or experience with sustainable construction practices is a plus.
