Position SummaryAlpha Graphics Irvine is hiring a Graphic Designer / Digital Key Operator with a strong pre‑press and file preparation background. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working behind the scenes preparing files for production, ensuring accuracy, and keeping jobs moving efficiently through digital print workflows—while also supporting basic customer service and order intake.
Core Responsibilities Pre-Press & File Preparation (Primary Focus)- Prepare customer‑supplied files for digital and wide‑format printing
- Check artwork for resolution, sizing, bleed, and color accuracy
- Set up imposition, nesting, and scaling for efficient production
- Create and edit cut paths for contour cutting
- Preflight files and troubleshoot print issues before output
- Operate RIP software (Onyx or similar preferred)
- Make minor artwork edits and revisions
- Create simple layouts for business cards, flyers, and marketing materials
- Prepare proofs for customer approval
- Answer incoming phone calls and assist with print inquiries
- Respond to emails regarding quotes, orders, and timelines
- Greet walk‑in customers and help collect job specifications
- Review incoming files for print readiness
- Communicate production requirements and turnaround times
- Collaborate with production staff to prioritize workflow
- Manage multiple jobs and rush orders simultaneously
- Assist with quality checks prior to output
- Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator & Photoshop
- Strong understanding of print file setup and pre‑press workflows
- Knowledge of bleed, trim, safe area, and color modes
- High attention to detail and organization
- Comfortable handling phones and customer communication
- Ability to multitask in a fast‑paced environment
- Experience with RIP software (Onyx, Fiery, Caldera, etc.)
- Digital print production familiarity
- Basic wide‑format knowledge
- Experience in a print shop or quick print environment
