General Description
Irvine Ranch Water District is currently accepting applications for a Temporary Customer Service Specialist I position in the Customer Service Department. The position is limited to a duration of six (6) months, with a possible extension up to twelve (12) months.
Position OverviewThe Specialist assists with administrative duties, answering and resolving customer inquiries regarding billing, adjustments, water and sewer services, and payments. The role involves interacting with customers via telephone, written communication, email, and in‑person visits.
Responsibilities- Takes telephone, written, and in‑person requests related to water and sewer service and processes them using the computer system.
- Answers and resolves billing questions by phone, correspondence, email, and in‑person; submits adjustments requests when appropriate.
- Accepts payments, prepares receipts, gives change, and creates or updates Customer Contacts in the computer system.
- Educates customers regarding the District’s variance program and assists with application completion and verification.
- Receives, verifies, and records Temporary Construction Meter applications at the front counter.
- Advocates for Customer Contacts and/or To‑Do items on the system for all external/internal transactions.
- Performs administrative duties, including ordering supplies, distributing departmental mail, processing Customer Service Satisfaction Surveys, and completing expense reports.
- Provides backup to the Customer Service Department as requested.
- Complies with District safety practices and attends relevant safety training.
- High school graduation or equivalent. For degrees obtained outside the U.S., an official equivalency evaluation is required.
- Two (2) years of general office experience with heavy customer contact.
Regular sitting, walking, bending, stooping, and standing. Occasionally required to lift up to 35 lbs. Must be able to sit for extended periods while working at a desk or workstation. Requires finger dexterity for data entry and use of standard office equipment. Optional standing and walking between work areas. Capable of sustaining concentration and decision‑making skills in a fast‑paced environment.
Environmental ConditionsTypical office environment with controlled temperature, adequate lighting, and safety procedures. Noise level equivalent to a typical office. No significant environmental hazards.
