The Transfer Student Center (TSC) works with all transfer students to facilitate their transition and overall success  Transfer Student Center directs students to appropriate campus programs and services.

We also organize weekly workshops, provide formal and informal mentoring, and provide students with a space for studying. The Transfer Student Center strives to foster a sense of community among the transfers at UCI and advocates for them in order to enhance their academic and social experience. TSC works closely with Tau Sigma National Honor Society and provides guidance in this organization's work to advocate and support transfer students ja, (a Kiswahili word meaning unity) is a community and critical resource dedicated to enhancing the cultural and educational experiences of African American and other students.

We believe that when the voices and histories of students are deliberately and intentionally recognized, the opportunity for self-efficacy emerges and a foundation is formed for academic success. Umoja actively serves and promotes student success for all students through a curriculum and pedagogy responsive to the legacy of the African and African American Diasporas. The Umoja program at UC Irvine is designed to assist transfer students in the transition to a four-year university.

We offer resources and support to help students set goals, and maximize their experience at UCI to achieve academic, professional, and personal success. Your Role on the Team Under the direction of the Program Director for the Transfer Student Center, the Transfer Academic Achievement Counselor for the Transfer Student Center works independently to provide high-quality programs, services, and initiatives that enhance transfer student engagement and retention at UCI;

provides high-quality programming, advising, and support to current and prospective transfer students related to transition, academic and personal success, and interprets related University policies and procedures; this role develops, implements, and evaluates transfer student initiatives including outreach, counseling, and referral efforts to assist students experiencing academic and/or adjustment issues, and implements programs and services that positively impact transfer student engagement.

This role will also lead summer transitional programming to engage incoming transfer students. An additional focus for the position will be to provide leadership, coordination, and counseling services for UCI's Umoja Program. The position would be charged with working collaboratively with the Office of Admissions, Center for Black Cultures Resources and Research, Student Outreach and Retention Center and more, to enhance the transfer student experience.

EXPECTED SALARY RANGE MAXIMUM IS $70,000 BASED ON EXPERIENCE.

Required:

Demonstrated knowledge of the theories and practice of counseling, learning, human and career development. Knowledge in how to enhance students' intellectual and personal growth and development, including critical thinking, effective communication, self-appraisal, self-esteem, clarification of values, appropriate career choices, and leadership. Knowledge of the methodologies used to enhance student achievement, such as collaborative teaching/learning models, strategies for effective counseling and peer mentoring, small group facilitation and training, coaching, mentoring, and advocacy.

Knowledge of trends and issues facing low-income and first-generation college, underrepresented, disadvantaged, physically challenged, and under-prepared students in higher education. Knowledge and experience in analyzing complex situations and identifying solutions for problem-solving; skills and experience in developing and administering programs designed to meet the diverse needs of students.
