Position: Residential Living Coordinator

Job Description

Using knowledge and skills as a seasoned, experienced Student Services professional, performs the full range of duties and responsibilities within a Student Life specialization. Assesses situations and determines appropriate action or referral. Works independently under general supervision to provide information and interpretation of complex policies, procedures and regulations. Identifies and responds to student needs for programs, services, and crisis intervention.

Under the direction of the Associate Director of Residence Life, the Residential Living Coordinator shares responsibility for after‑hour emergency and crisis response in a diverse community setting. Assist in the development of community through connecting with residents, supervising student staff, programming, advising groups, managing projects, adjudicating student conduct and administrative duties, this will be a visible and important position in developing the residence community.

Overall responsibilities include the selection, training, supervision, and evaluation of student staff (Resident Advisor and others as applicable, oversight of programming, budget management, counseling and referring students (individually and in groups) assisting with residence hall classes, committee work within housing and with other student service offices; and working cooperatively with other campus agencies such as UCI Police Department (UCIPD), Counseling Center, and Health Services.

The Residential Living Coordinator will assist the Associate Director in the development of the overall Residence Life program within student housing. This is a Student Housing position, initial assignment is community based, and may be changed depending on departmental needs.

Student Housing is a self‑funded, large and complex campus department consisting of 6 housing communities and 3 support units, with more than 300 staff employees, 300‑400 student employees and an annual operating budget of $120 million. Student Housing provides housing for approximately 9,000 undergraduates, graduate students and their families in over 280 buildings and approximately 3.3 million sq. ft. Currently, Student Housing houses 51% of UCI’s enrolled students (in conjunction with American Campus Communities, UCI’s 3rd party housing partner) with a goal of housing 60% as part of the campus Long Range Development Plan (LRDP).

Student Housing also provides maintenance and repair services to student residents.

  • Ability to recruit, select, train, supervise and evaluate staff.
  • Skill in counseling individual students and groups of students of diverse backgrounds regarding personal and academic needs; knowledge of campus resources for referrals.
  • Ability to respond in a rational and level‑headed manner in a crisis or emergency situation using effective crisis‑management techniques.
  • Experience administering a student conduct process and skills in interpreting, enforcing and explaining to residents University Policies.
