This current vacancy is for a Children's Services Library Assistant.
The Children’s Services Library Assistant position at University Park Libraries contributes to library operations through a variety of duties, including planning and presenting story times for children and families, assisting library customers in the use of library services and technology, providing basic information and research assistance to the public, assisting with development and maintenance of the children's materials collection, assisting with general library programming and other library-related activities with a focus on programs and activities for children and families, and participating in community and outreach events.

Full‑time Salary RangeLibrary Assistant I – $58,656.00 – $92,289.60 Annually
Schedule for University Park LibrarySunday‑Wednesday/Thursday with a mixture of morning and evening shifts.

Children's Services, Adult Services, and Borrower Services.

Your ImpactEssential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist library customers in the use of library services and technology and provide basic information and research assistance to the public.
- Assist with collection maintenance as directed.
- Assist with implementing general library programming and other library‑related activities.
- Assist with interpreting and applying library policies and procedures for customers.
- Participate in community and outreach events as directed.
- Assist with the supervision of facility rentals and enforce rules applicable to that reservation.

- College coursework in library services, community services, or related field with four years of increasing responsible experience of advanced clerical, technical, or paraprofessional library services experience, or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California driver’s license.
- Ability to possess or obtain a First Aid and CPR certification within three months of employment is required.
- A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, or one-year of experience working in a library as a Library Assistant or higher. College level coursework in Library Science or a related field is highly desirable.
- Ability to apply City Library policies and procedures.
- Ability to provide excellent customer service by meeting the public with courtesy and sensitivity.
- Ability to apply City Library policies and procedures.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing to a diverse audience.
- Basic knowledge of library information resources and technology.
The selection process will include an examination and a background investigation prior to appointment. This recruitment may establish an eligibility list to fill future positions in similar and/or lower classifications within the organization.
