The academic programs that the Sue & Bill Gross School of Nursing offers include a Bachelor of Science in Nursing Science, a Master of Science in Nursing Science (MEPN), a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP), and a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Nursing Science.

Responsibilities

The Director of Academic Nursing Administration serves as the lead administrative officer for the academic nursing programs unit within the Sue & Bill Gross School of Nursing and functions as a key member of the School's management team. This position provides strategic leadership and oversight across academic degree programs, programmatic activities, institutional effectiveness, and compliance activities that support the School's educational and teaching missions.

The Director independently manages complex projects involving the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of academic nursing programs across all degree levels (undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral) in addition to development and administration of non-clinical undergraduate pathways, such as pre-nursing programs, ensuring program integrity, student success, faculty development support, and regulatory compliance. The Director functions as the lead staff administrative officer for an academic nursing unit supporting research and senate faculty, providing administrative leadership over academic program operations, fiscal administration, accreditation compliance, and institutional educational activities.

The incumbent is responsible for strategic and faculty workload planning, financial analysis, regulatory compliance, resource planning, and budget monitoring to ensure operational sustainability and alignment with institutional priorities. The Director performs the highest level of operational, administrative, and institutional analysis, providing information and analysis on institutional effectiveness, data analytics, benchmarking, program evaluation, and leads student recruitment and retention in collaboration with the Director of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management.

Additionally, the Director conducts cross-sectional and longitudinal analyses, develops operational procedures and systems to support accreditation documentation, and recommends policy changes to ensure adherence to government regulations, external agency requirements, and university policies. The Director provides comprehensive administrative oversight of academic nursing programs and has oversight over academic program staff who support degree program administration, accreditation compliance, institutional data collection, instructional design, information technology, admissions/recruitment, and program evaluation.

Working collaboratively with academic program leadership, faculty, and the Director of Clinical Nursing Programs, the incumbent develops and executes long-term vision, policies, and procedures for academic nursing programs while ensuring compliance with accreditation standards (AACN, BRN, CCNE). The Director serves as the primary subject matter expert for accreditation matters, working with faculty groups, institutional researchers, and student affairs personnel to ensure the preparation of thorough and accurate accreditation reports.

The Director coordinates academic program review processes and leads institutional data collection and analysis for external reporting, including UCOP reporting and national rankings such as US News and World Report.
