Assistant Professor/Associate Professor/Professor (Tenure Track/In Residence - 50/50) in Neuromuscular Research
Salary range: Total Negotiated Salary (TNS) calculation includes AAMC salary benchmarks for Neurology ranging from $220,000 – $289,000. The posted UC salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and/or step bership in the health science compensation plan provides eligibility for additional compensation.

Position Overview: UCI invites applications for a full‑time faculty member to join the Department of Neurology in the School of Medicine, College of Health Sciences. The appointment will be at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor level with a 50% Ladder Rank / 50% In‑Residence split. Ideal candidates are physician‑scientists who employ molecular, cellular, neurobiological, genetic, and/or clinical research approaches to neuromuscular disease (e.g., ALS).
They should have a record of creativity, productivity, and the potential for outstanding future achievement within a collaborative neuroscience research community.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and lead a productive and innovative research program on neuromuscular disease.
- Secure extramural funding to support research activities.
- Actively participate in graduate student, medical student, and resident education.
- Leverage resources and collaborations within UCI Health and partner institutions (e.g., Institute for Clinical and Translational Sciences, Sue and Bill Gross Stem Cell Research Center, Center for Neurotherapeutics, Center for Neural Circuit Mapping).
- Demonstrate a genuine commitment to service activities within local, national, and international communities.
Qualifications:
- M.D., M.D./Ph.D., or other MD‑equivalent degree.
- Advanced research experience in neuromuscular disorders, including expertise in ALS or related conditions.
- Track record of grant writing and publication.
- Ability to mentor and train students and residents.
