Swim Instructor Position

We are looking for year-round swim instructors for the Merage JCC. Come work at a community center with a great supportive staff and fun aquatic culture! Our extraordinary facility, with its breathtaking views, includes a health and fitness complex, preschool and toddler care, teen center, gymnasium with two full-sized basketball courts, swimming pool, senior center, adult education rooms, a professional-style theater and auditorium with banquet facilities.

Our programs and services celebrate family, foster health and well-being, embrace tradition, create friendships, and expand cultural horizons all in a safe, positive, friendly and inviting environment.

Instructors are responsible for implementing a curriculum in each lesson with an individual plan for swim instruction that will enable them to live a lifetime of safety in and around the water. Instructors will maintain the highest quality integrity, safety and values in every interaction, with children, parents and staff members.

We are seeking an instructor who will be:

• Swimming/Teaching: 2 years (Preferred) or equivalent
• 18 yrs and high school graduated
• Fun, friendly and outgoing
• Reliable...consistency is KEY for our driven parent members!
• Energetic
• Great team player
• And have experience with swimming or with children, or ideally BOTH!

Benefits

• The Instructors make $18-$20/hr.
• After 90 days the opportunity to make commission-based pay is available to hard-working instructors. Commission pay is up to $24/hr.

The swim instructor position requires a person to have the passion to invest the time to teach safety and confidence in the water. Though swim experience is a plus, general teaching experience and the right personality with a positive attitude are ALL welcome to apply. Training provided.

Instructors will:

• Report to work 15 minutes prior to each shift
• Be in uniform (Staff shirt) when entering the JCC building
• Answer basic emails/call back about booking lessons
• Set up teaching areas
• Clean and maintain pool areas before and after each shift
• Be knowledgeable in regards to parent questions regarding progression and personal plan curriculum
• Contact parents with updates on a consistent basis

Customer Service:

• Greet members when they come into the aquatic center
• Communicate effectively with potential and existing customers
• Build relationships with families and get to know their names and their children's names
• Handle customer complaints gracefully with a win/win outcome
• Work together with staff to report any complaints.
• Lead by example for other staff members by using the customer-focused principle in every customer interaction
