Undergraduate Admission Counselor

Position Summary: The Admission Counselor is responsible for outreach activities within assigned geographic territories, including maintaining and following up with prospective students, parents, and school counselors. The counselor represents the university at college fairs, coordinates school visits, compiles and analyzes data for outreach planning, manages a file‑reading caseload, assists the admission committee, and leads special projects. Annual travel of 4‑6 weeks is required.

Other duties are assigned as needed.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a strategic outreach plan for assigned territories.
  • Represent the university at college fairs and school visits; follow up with prospective students, parents, and school counselors.
  • Travel four to six weeks annually for recruitment and other admission‑related activities.
  • Manage the file‑reading caseload and present assigned applicants to the admission committee.
  • Develop individualized student admission programs to ensure positive, productive conversations.
  • Conduct presentations with visiting groups and participate as counselor of the day.
  • Participate in transfer advising appointments.
  • Compile data and evaluate outreach efforts; contribute to strategic planning.
  • Lead and manage special projects as assigned.
  • Attend professional development activities and serve on committees such as the WACAC Admission Practices Committee.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • High level of knowledge of university programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Strong presentation skills to communicate persuasively with target audiences.
  • Effective written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills with diverse audiences.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team, exercise initiative, and work independently.
  • Proven ability to evaluate data, assess alternatives, and make position‑level decisions.
  • Excellent writing skills for clear, concise business correspondence.
  • Basic financial skills: prepare basic forms, reconcile expenses, perform arithmetic calculations.
  • Computer skills with Microsoft Office Suite, word processing, desktop publishing, spreadsheets, databases, internet, and email.
  • Technical proficiency with enterprise software such as Slate, People Soft/Campus Solutions, and The Common Application.
  • Ability to use standard office equipment including copier, fax, and calculator.
  • Ability to arrange travel and lodging, and coordinate logistics for meetings, workshops, and events.
  • Strong organizational skills to prioritize schedules, projects, and resources, and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to use tact and diplomacy and maintain confidentiality.
  • Clear understanding of Chapman University’s mission.
  • Sensitivity to individual prospective student and family needs.
Desired Qualifications
  • Working knowledge of higher education admission and enrollment policies and procedures.
Pay Range

$70,304
