The Assistant Director is an integral member of the Office of Undergraduate Admission’s management team charged with recruiting, selecting and enrolling the first‑year and transfer classes. The role involves public relations, outreach, and recruiting activities both on and off campus, including attending college fairs, presenting informational programs, and developing collegial relationships with school personnel. The Assistant Director also collaborates with campus constituencies to strengthen ties with key stakeholders, develops data‑driven recruitment strategies, and represents the Office of Admission as a liaison to other on‑campus departments.
Participation in professional development activities, professional associations, and the implementation of new student enrollment plans is also required.
- Recruitment, outreach, liaison, and programming: Work with leadership to develop recruitment plans and strategies aligned with admissions goals. Create an annual outreach plan, conduct market analysis and competitor intelligence, analyze historical data to set outreach targets, and prioritize college fairs, information programs, and school visits.
- Counseling/Advisement: Interview prospective students to evaluate suitability for admission and advise prospects on requirements, general education, majors, financial aid, and scholarship opportunities.
- Read/review assigned applications: Evaluate first‑year and selected transfer applications, provide decision recommendations and rationales, and participate in the full admissions process as a member of the University Admission Committee.
- Admissions Liaison: Coordinate with designated academic and student affairs units to facilitate the admission process for interested students, train limited‑term staff, supervise team members in reading and committee work, and guide admissions counselors through complex situations.
- Professional development activities: Serve as a member of regional and national professional associations, seek industry‑related educational opportunities, and assist with event planning within the admissions community.
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum of 2–4 years’ experience in admissions or a related field. Strong organizational, written, oral, and interpersonal skills, including the ability to maintain confidentiality, demonstrate diplomacy, and lead teams. Proficiency in enterprise and departmental information systems such as People Soft, Slate, CRM, Image Now, Apply Now, and The Common Application. Excellent presentation and time‑management skills, the ability to work independently with limited supervision, and willingness to travel domestically (including weekends and evenings).
Computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite and a respectful, culturally aware approach to interacting with diverse individuals and families.
