We foster an interdisciplinary approach through collaborative work among our nine academic departments, 24 degree programs, and numerous research centers and facilities, many of which are used by other stakeholders across the campus, from medicine to the arts. Your Role on the Team Under the general direction of the Dean, the School of Social Sciences at UC Irvine seeks a Senior Assistant Dean who provides administrative leadership and day-to-day management of the general operations and implementation of the School's mission and strategies.
The incumbent is tasked with upholding and exemplifying excellence in the University's core competencies -- job mastery, goal accomplishment, enterprise contribution and innovation -- while representing the Dean and School to members of the campus, UC system and the community the University continues to expand and shift culturally, it is imperative that the incumbent supports change management at the School level while aiding in the facilitation of effective change enterprise-wide.

The incumbent is responsible for the entire scope of planning, operations, and resource management for the School, involving its instructional, research, and administrative functions with administrative management responsibilities for the following functional departments:
Anthropology, Chicano-Latino Studies, Cognitive Sciences, Economics, Global and International Studies, Language Science, Logic and Philosophy of Science, Political Science and Sociology, as well as the School's research and administrative units. The incumbent conducts extensive planning for all operational, resource and program needs; directs financial operations; oversees technology support operations for both administrative and instructional computing; provides leadership for management of all space, facilities, and capital needs;
management responsibility for all human resources issues (both academic and staff) in the School. The incumbent collaborates closely with other management level staff in the School in providing real-time data and analysis to the Dean to assist in mid- to long-range planning, scenario development, and crisis management. Required:
Excellent ability to establish metrics for department and employee goals. Excellent skills to work collaboratively and act persuasively in sensitive situations; skills in conflict management techniques. Excellent interpersonal skills to effectively lead, motivate and influence others and to develop and maintain high standards of customer service. Excellent project management skills, including the capability of managing capital projects. Very strong ability to quickly evaluate complex issues and identify multiple options for resolution.
Demonstrated ability to respond thoroughly and proactively to the School's needs in ways that meet the objectives and goals which further its academic mission.…
