GoldPointe Academy is seeking an experienced, thoughtful, and student-centered College Admissions Counselor / Academic & College Planning Counselor to guide middle and high school students through long-term academic development and the U.S. college admissions process.

This role extends far beyond preparing applications or recommending colleges. Our counselors work closely with students and families to understand each student’s academic abilities, interests, personality, aspirations, and potential. These insights are then translated into a coherent, individualized strategy spanning academic planning, extracurricular development, personal positioning, college selection, and application execution.

The goal is not simply to help students gain admission. It is to help them develop the direction, capabilities, and confidence needed to succeed throughout college and beyond.

What You’ll Do

Student Profile & Personal Development

Conduct comprehensive assessments of each student’s academic background, interests, strengths, goals, personal characteristics, and areas for growth.

Help students explore potential academic interests, college majors, and long-term career directions.

Identify and develop the distinctive qualities, experiences, and perspectives that shape each student’s profile.

Help students build an authentic and coherent personal narrative.

Create individualized short-term and long-term development plans.

Reassess priorities and adjust strategies as students grow and their goals evolve.

Academic Planning

Develop thoughtful, multi-year academic plans for middle and high school students.

Advise students on course selection, including Honors, AP, IB, Dual Enrollment, and other advanced coursework.

Help students establish realistic but ambitious GPA and standardized testing goals.

Monitor academic performance and recommend clear strategies for improvement.

Identify learning gaps and coordinate tutoring, enrichment, or other academic resources when appropriate.

Balance academic rigor with each student’s readiness, interests, school environment, and long‑term goals.

Extracurricular & Activity Development

Help students build meaningful extracurricular profiles based on their genuine interests, strengths, and potential.

Advise students on opportunities including:

Clubs and student organizations

Leadership roles

Community service

Academic and extracurricular competitions

Research

Internships

Summer programs

Independent projects

Passion projects

Help students develop their activities progressively instead of accumulating disconnected experiences.

Guide students in transforming their interests into sustained involvement, measurable accomplishments, leadership, and meaningful impact.

Identify opportunities that strengthen both personal development and future college positioning.

Help students reflect on what they have learned and communicate the significance of their experiences.

College Admissions Planning

Develop personalized admissions strategies based on each student’s academic profile, interests, goals, personal qualities, and family expectations.

Research and recommend colleges, universities, majors, and academic programs that align with the student’s needs.

Build balanced college lists that include Reach, Target, and Likely schools.

Advise students and families on admissions requirements, application plans, testing expectations, and important timelines.

Guide students through overall application strategy, personal positioning, and presentation.

Help students determine the most effective application approach, including Early Decision, Early Action, Restrictive Early Action, Regular Decision, and applicable public university systems.

Collaborate closely with essay advisors and other specialists throughout the application process.

Track application milestones and ensure students complete important requirements by established deadlines.

Maintain strategic consistency across academics, activities,…
