The Disability Services Center strives to create a culture of inclusion and access to all UCI programs, services, activities, events, and facilities for students with disabilities by forming partnerships with the university community. DSC also provides reasonable accommodations, and related disability services to UCI students, Continuing Education, Summer Session students, and other program participants. DSC also monitors campus compliance with requirements under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act as Amended (ADAAA).
The DSC also supports and advise academic and administrative departments regarding accessibility to physical and online environments.
This highly detailed individual is assigned to oversee key components of the Disability Services Center (DSC) including front office support and supervision of student staff. This position is responsible for overseeing and managing a wide variety of administrative activities including: office reception activities, directing calls from students, faculty, staff, parents, and the general public. This individual will focus on evening exam proctoring including coordination of student exams, exam acquisition and return, managing exam room logistics, and supervising evening student staff.
The legally required accommodations provided by this position are complex, highly time sensitive, and must be effectively provided with the utmost security. The individual must be able to answer general questions and give a broad overview of disability services, ensure confidentiality of records and information, manage staff appointments, and provide support in the provision of various student accommodations.
Required:
- Knowledge of the legal framework involving accommodations for disabilities through state and federal laws and regulations in relation to the narrow focus of specialization.
- Skill in communicating with students, faculty, staff, and vendors concerning access accommodations.
- Proficient in communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Demonstrates ability to use sound judgment and to mediate in responding to issues and concerns involving supervisors as necessary.
- Proficient in ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality.
- Proficient in ability to multi-task with demanding time frames.
- Highly skilled in use of computers and technology for data management, scheduling and communication, including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite.
- Well versed on and can articulate and apply the Social Justice Model regarding disability in Higher Education.
- Knowledge of assessment, accommodation, and intervention techniques involved in employee's specialty, for example, learning disorders, mobility disability, visual impairment, etc.
- Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
