Description

The College of Performing Arts at Chapman University seeks applications for its Part-Time Lecturer Pool for the academic year  in the following areas:

  • Department of Dance: areas of teaching may include studio classes (ballet, modern, jazz, hip hop, contemporary, and other dance genres), conditioning classes (yoga, Pilates, cross training etc.), creative practice (choreography, improvisation etc.), dance studies courses (history, theory, dance science, pedagogy). Choreographers interested in setting choreographic work on the students or teaching repertory are encouraged to apply.
  • Department of Theatre: areas of teaching may include directing, acting, design, technology, production practices, theatre history, performance studies, dramatic literature, and dramaturgy.
  • Hall-Musco Conservatory of Music: areas of teaching may include music history, music theory and aural skills, music education, lessons or classes in voice (classical and popular), lessons or classes in instrumental music or specific instruments (piano, strings, woodwinds, brass, percussion, guitar [classical, electric, bass], etc.), and more. Specialists in music theory, aural skills, or private lessons on a particular instrument are especially encouraged to apply.

Appointments from the part-time pool are temporary and often made just prior to the start of the academic term, so applicants must be available at times on very short notice. Fall contracts begin in mid-August and end late-December;
Spring contracts begin in mid-January and end mid-May.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's or master's degree and/or Equivalent Professional Experience.
  • University teaching experience or related field experience.
  • Demonstrated currency in subject matter.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively orally and in writing.
  • Strong commitment to student learning, quality teaching, and academic excellence.
  • Ability to motivate and teach students of diverse learning styles and backgrounds.
  • Ability to teach in-person on campus
