Environmental Engineer
WSP is seeking an Oil and Gas Technical Leader to support our nationwide well plugging and abandonment program.
Job OverviewThe selected candidate may work from Pittsburgh or Southern California offices. The role supports both privately and publicly funded projects focused on environmental and remediation efforts. A balance of technical, operational, and interpersonal skills is required, along with relevant experience and qualifications.
Key Responsibilities- Communicate with the team to understand project objectives and lead resources to meet scope, schedule, budget, and safety requirements.
- Ensure satisfactory progress and implement corrective actions promptly when necessary.
- Perform field tasks, attend key meetings, support subcontractor coordination, and document project activities during planning, design, and construction.
- Prepare and review deliverables.
- Provide technical assistance such as interpreting specifications and applying technical standards to project‑specific applications.
- Conduct periodic site visits to confirm progress aligns with project requirements.
- Review contractor/subcontractor payment applications.
- 7–10 years of relevant experience.
- Degree in engineering, geoscience, or related discipline, or equivalent industry experience.
- Experience in designing, evaluating, and installing/abandoning oil and gas wells.
- Demonstrated experience in drilling, production, or decommissioning projects.
- Track record of completing projects while ensuring safety, quality, cost, and schedule goals.
- Experience with construction plans, specifications, and scope management.
- Excellent communication, problem‑solving, conflict resolution, and decision‑making skills.
- Certifications preferred (PE, PG, etc.).
- Ability to verify well integrity in aging, complex wells with deteriorated components such as casings, tubing, or valves, and threats like corrosion, erosion, scaling, or leaks.
- Experience abandoning wells in challenging and sensitive environments.
- Ability to manage technical, operational, or environmental risks such as high pressure, high temperature, low visibility, or wildlife protection.
- Authorized to work in the United States.
