The Electrical Estimator is responsible for overseeing the preparation of accurate and comprehensive cost estimates for construction projects. This role involves coordinating with various departments, analyzing project requirements, and ensuring that all estimates are aligned with company standards and client expectations. The Lead Estimator plays a crucial role in the bidding process, helping the company secure profitable projects while maintaining competitive pricing.

Mass. Electric Construction Co. (MEC) is a subsidiary of the Kiewit Corporation, founded in 1928 in Boston, Massachusetts. MEC’s philosophy has been to pursue electrical projects that require a higher level of technical and logistical skill. The company strategically participates and captures projects in the growing industrial market and aims to compete effectively in traditional and alternate delivery procurements for a sustainable future.

Location

This position is located in Irvine, CA.

Responsibilities
  • Implement and oversee district estimating program and activities, including the development of policies and procedures.
  • Assist the district manager in the review of all estimates; arrange and coordinate second estimates, maintain past cost history, and compile comparable details.
  • Maintain a training program for estimating staff, update lead estimator and sponsor manuals, and supervise the district scheduling department.
  • Maintain district standards for control budgets and develop project‑level staffing plans to ensure adequate support after award.
  • Coordinate with the business development department in the preparation of proposal documents.
  • Ensure that all new graduates receive scheduled training for engineers in estimating and Field Engineer duties.
  • Provide estimating support for numerous projects, perform quantity take‑offs, and solicit, evaluate, and incorporate vendor or manufacturer material and subcontractor pricing.
  • Prepare recaps, pricing sheets, bid forms, and other proposal documents for in‑house review and bid submission.
Qualifications
  • 5+ years of estimating experience.
  • Familiarity with power feeders, controls, and signal systems for industrial applications.
  • Experience estimating industrial electrical installations (e.g., water/wastewater treatment facilities, refineries, battery storage facilities).
  • Strong work ethic and interpersonal, organizational, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work on a team as well as independently with little or no supervision.
  • Proficiency with standard office computer software.
  • Experience with Accubid Anywhere and Bluebeam preferred.
  • Results‑oriented with the ability to effectively manage multiple priorities.
  • Willingness to travel for pre‑bid job walks and bid reviews.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (civil, mechanical, or electrical) preferred but not required.

  • Perform work safely and effectively by following oral and written instructions, warning signs, equipment use, and other policies.
  • Work during normal operating hours and organize work to complete within given deadlines; overtime and weekends may be required.
Base Compensation

$115,000/yr – $145,000/yr (Actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, experience, skill set, and/or location).
