National Manager of Safety Evaluation & Forensic Engineering
Location:
Irvine, CA (Onsite)
Salary Range: $135,501 - $195,490
A leading automotive organization is seeking an experienced National Manager of Safety Evaluation & Forensic Engineering to lead complex vehicle safety investigations and manage a high-impact forensic engineering team. This senior-level role partners closely with regulatory agencies, legal teams, and customer care to evaluate potential safety issues and support regulatory compliance efforts.
Key Responsibilities- Lead vehicle, system, and component-level safety investigations
, providing expert engineering analysis and recommendations. - Oversee and manage responses to NHTSA investigations, inquiries, and consumer complaints (VOQs).
- Supervise forensic analysis of field vehicles and components to support early issue detection and corrective actions.
- Act as a technical liaison supporting legal counsel, outside experts, and litigation related to safety claims
. - Provide technical guidance on safety-related customer care cases under legal oversight.
- Develop and mentor the Forensic Engineering & Investigation (FEI) team through training, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Automotive Technology (or equivalent experience).
- 10+ years of relevant technical experience within the automotive industry.
- 5+ years automotive experience and 2+ years of people leadership.
- Strong working knowledge of FMVSS
, Motor Vehicle Safety Act, and regulatory compliance. - Expertise in active and passive safety systems
, ADAS, powertrains (ICE, EV, hybrid), accident dynamics, fire science, and EDR/ACU data analysis. - Excellent communication skills with the ability to present findings to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Valid driver's license; up to 20% domestic and international travel
. - Ability to evaluate vehicles in office, lab, and field environments.
