Job Description & How to Apply Below

Senior Embedded Motor Control Software Engineer

Aerospace is changing. Costs are rising, supply chains are strained, and legacy development cycles can’t keep up. At Neon Aero, we’re building aircraft differently, combining startup speed with serious aerospace discipline.

We’re looking for an Senior Embedded Motor Control Software Engineer to own the control architecture for aviation-grade linear and rotary actuators.

This is not a “tune some gains” role. You’ll design and deliver a full high-performance control stack, including FOC-based current control at 20 kHz, plus velocity and position loops, running on real-time motor-control MCUs.

If you want your code to drive systems that physically move aircraft hardware, this is it.

What You’ll Own
  • Lead motor control software for PMSM / BLDC actuators
  • Design and maintain a multi-loop control architecture (current / velocity / position)
  • Implement sensor-based FOC (encoder + current sensing)
  • Optimize real-time performance, including PWM, ADC synchronization, interrupts, and loop determinism
  • Own implementation on TI C2000, F280034

    SPN preferred
  • Develop low-level drivers and middleware where required
  • Model, tune, calibrate, and validate control loops
  • Support hardware bring-up and lab debugging
  • Contribute to SIL / MIL / HIL testing strategies
  • Work closely with Systems, Electrical, and Manufacturing teams to ensure integration and certification readiness
What You Bring
  • 8+ years of embedded motor control software experience
  • Strong experience with TI C2000, F28003x / F280034 strongly preferred
  • Embedded C/C++ in real-time environments
  • Strong fundamentals in:
  • Control theory
  • Electric machines
  • Real-time systems

Comfortable working in the lab, close to hardware, solving real problems.

Nice to Have
  • Sensorless control
  • MATLAB / Simulink and model-based design
  • Exposure to safety-critical systems such as DO-178 or ISO 26262 concepts
  • Aerospace, automotive, or robotics actuation systems

At Neon Aero, you won’t be maintaining legacy systems. You’ll be building the control foundation for next-generation aircraft.

If you’re interested in owning something meaningful and shipping it, let’s talk.
