Senior Mechanical Engineer – Ventilation R&D
Seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Engineer to join a Ventilation R&D team, contributing to the design and development of next‑generation critical-care ventilation systems. In this role, you will drive the design of parts, assemblies, and enclosures for new and updated ventilator products and sub‑systems. You will collaborate closely with a cross‑functional team of engineers and scientists to achieve key product goals related to thermal management, ingress protection, EMI isolation, and shock/vibration performance.
This position requires strong technical depth and a commitment to engineering excellence, with occasional involvement in project coordination activities.
- Lead, mentor, and provide technical guidance to junior engineers and designers, ensuring adherence to best practices and design standards.
- Contribute to major development projects by documenting, designing, developing, and testing mechanical and electromechanical systems used in both next‑generation and legacy life‑support equipment.
- Perform detailed engineering analyses, including mechanical analysis, thermal/flow modeling, and tolerance analysis.
- Refine designs to support Design for Manufacturability and Assembly (DFMA) objectives.
- Generate comprehensive documentation, including part drawings, assemblies, Bills of Materials, and purchasing specifications.
- Create and manage Engineering Change Orders to support design control and production release.
- Assist with documentation for regulatory submissions and testing of new or existing designs.
- Participate in risk assessments and FMEA processes for design history file creation.
- Conduct and participate in technical design reviews.
- Present design concepts to suppliers and evaluate prototypes and samples for testing and production suitability.
- Execute verification and validation testing at part, subsystem, and system levels, including documentation of results.
- Lead design of experiments (DOE) and laboratory testing on both new and legacy products.
- Support scheduling, budgeting, and project reporting activities as needed.
- Proficiency in Solid Works (Design, Drawing, PDM, and Simulation).
- Strong understanding of drawing creation per ASME Y14.5-2009.
- Experience designing and analyzing components used in embedded-system packaging (molded plastics, sheet metal, gaskets, PCBs, LCDs, cables, labels).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal oversight; highly self‑motivated.
- Demonstrated commitment to continuous technical growth and improvement.
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering required;
Master’s degree preferred. - Minimum 7 years of mechanical engineering and product design experience (or 5 years with a Master’s degree).
- Solid Works CSWP certification preferred.
- Experience working in a medical device or other highly regulated industry strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with IEC 60601 is a plus.

This is a Contract position based out of Irvine, CA.
The pay range for this position is $60.00 - $70.00/hr.
