The Division of Finance and Administration (DFA) provides services and support to over 50,000 students, faculty, and staff with the mission of advancing UCI's brilliant future and the vision of becoming world-class campus partners. DFA serves the university as planning partners, problem solvers, and solutions providers - striving to make it as easy as possible for people to get the services they need, when they need them.
Facilities Management is responsible for the effective operation of Irvine campus buildings, grounds and utilities; for providing a safe, functionally suitable and aesthetic environment in support of academic, research and public service programs of the University. Providing comprehensive management of campus facilities requires the employment of approximately 325 personnel ranging in classification from custodians and groundskeepers to more technical skilled crafts such as electricians and plumbers, and professional design staff and engineers.
These services cover more than 150 buildings of approximately 6 million gross square feet, and1,475 acres of grounds. Facilities Management has an annual operating budget exceeding $80 million in expenditures, with operating funds of $30 million and $15 million for reimbursable campus activities. Project Services a construction department within Facilities Management manages a portfolio of major infrastructure and renovation projects totaling $200M per year.
Plant Operations and Maintenance has primary responsibility for the operation, maintenance, service, and repair of Central Plant, building, machinery and utility systems ponsibility for, but not limited to, the operation, maintenance, and cleaning of the combustion turbine generator; steam turbine generator; heat recovery system; AQMD emissions reduction systems; gas compressor; related electrical equipment and systems; high pressure, multi-fuel and HTHW boilers;
both steam and electric chillers; cooling tower; air compressors; water softeners; high temperature hot water generators; air dryer systems; vacuum systems; emergency generators; all auxiliary equipment and any other equipment under the jurisdiction of the Central Plant. Maintain accurate records of equipment operation and maintenance on log sheets and logbooks. Maintain accurate records of time and materials used for equipment repairs and maintenance.
Provide emergency services, excellent customer communications and services to the campus community. The position is responsible for assisting in the development, implementation and maintenance of a preventive and corrective maintenance program to insure reliable operation of the central plant and an accurate maintenance history of all plant and building equipment. The position will also perform operational, maintenance and other duties as assigned, associated with the central plant.
Required:
- To be hired into this position, the individual must possess (within 6 months of hire) a valid unlimited Steam Operating Engineering License, issued by the City of Los Angeles Three years Power Plant experience:

Maintain, operate, repair, overhaul, replace. (Vac. Pumps, air comp., air dryers, various water system skids) Knowledgeable in Rigging, and lifting heavy equipment Ability to align pumps, fans, and motors Pipe fitting skills of all sizing. Blk. pipe, PVC piping and SS tubing Ability to replace bearings and seals on pumps and motor LOTO (Lock Out/Tag Out) experience Knowledge and skills to operate, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair all central plant equipment and systems.
Knowledge and skills to operate, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair all campus building mechanical equipment and systems Knowledge of gas turbine engines and electrical systems. Knowledge of commonly accepted industry operation/maintenance practices. Ability to use PC or computer system to access and manipulate data and control equipment and processes. Ability to manage programs and maintain files, records, and logs. Must be able to see and read well enough to understand written work instructions, technical manuals, blueprints, computer screens, printouts, etc.
