Southwest Division

Shimmick’s Southwest Division, headquartered in Irvine, California, focuses on large public owners in Southern California, across water resources, water treatment, transportation, and transit markets. Over the past decade, the division has grown tremendously, securing major projects, including the $350 million North City Pure Water Facility in San Diego and the $200 million Groundwater Replenishment System in Orange County.

Responsibilities
  • Develop proficiency in the use of the company estimating systems and processes.
  • Recognize, understand, and apply estimating terminology, measures, concepts, and principles for compiling all types of estimates.
  • Recognize how various processes or project actions and assumptions may impact the estimate and quantify the impact.
  • Assist in analyzing and using estimates to predict key project issues.
  • Prepare and/or coordinate preparation of full project estimates. Provide complete conceptual and final estimating input.
  • Understand construction means, methods, and sequences—single discipline.
  • Perform all aspects of estimating.
  • Assist in the preparation of the Estimate Plan.
  • Conduct work requiring independent evaluation, selection, adaptation, and modification of standard estimating techniques, procedures, and criteria.
  • May provide guidance to less experienced estimating personnel.
  • Develop wage rate build‑ups.
  • Read and interpret drawings, specifications, Requests‑for‑Proposals, and contracts.
  • Develop detailed material take‑offs for procurement of bulk materials.
  • Apply the various elements of Shimmick's cost structure (overheads, G&A, insurance, etc.).
  • Develop cash flow schedules and estimates.
  • Be knowledgeable of the CAES estimating system.
  • Prepare scope and bid package breakdowns for subcontract and vendor quotes.
  • Prepare subcontract bid analysis for scope, cost, and price.
  • Understand Earned Value Management (EVMS) theory and application.
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field plus 10 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • Experience leading estimating processes for complex civil infrastructure projects.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Estimating experience in rail/transit, bridge, and/or water/wastewater treatment plant projects.
  • Familiarity with financial analysis (NPV, ROIC, ROCE).
  • Strong understanding of construction means, methods, and sequences.
  • Understand estimating terminology and measures and recognize processes or project actions that may impact the project.

Salary and Benefits

The salary range for this position is between $190,000 and $240,000 depending on experience and/or education.

These benefits are available to all employees working more than 20 hours per week. Employees working less than 20 hours per week are eligible for medical, dental and vision coverage as well as EAP services.
